Japan Business Machine and Information System Industries Association (JBMIA) was formerly, Japan Business Machine Makers Association (JBMA) established in 1960, and officially changed its name on April 1st, 2002. About JBMIA
With regard to the name change, two factors were very influential. The first factor was the development of the information society, including digitalization and networking. The second factor was the change in business conditions. The member companies, which previously attached greater importance on hardware, now are offering total business solutions. In keeping up with these changes, JBMIA has broadened the scope of membership qualifications and intended to deepen the association with the sales and software-related companies, as well as manufacturers. Thus JBMIA is committed to contributing to the creation and utilization of knowledge in the workplaces by means of information technology, while proposing "UC (Ubiquitous workware and Collaboration)" as the symbol words of next generation offices, replacing "OA (Office Automation)".
Other activities of JBMIA are related to environmental preservation, standardization, product safety and international cooperation. These activities are also investigating and researching for the related issues. JBMIA has been tackling major problems that industries are confronting in and out of Japan. For these purposes, JBMIA has many active committees and groups which are comprised of member companies offering products and services required for the business machines field and the information systems field.
